With J.R. being as ruthless as he was it was hard to determine who did shoot J.R. During this season Larry Hagman proved himself as an actor. The ratings soared with Who Shot J.R. Ewing. His recovery is quick and Sue Ellen is right by his side as the dutiful wife. Digger Barnes flies to Dallas to be with his son Cliff and daughter Pam. Miss Ellie hasn't seen Digger in years, yet Miss Ellie meets with Digger and its obvious that once they cared deeply for one another. Friendly fire can also be an online games term.

Digger coincidently becomes sick when he is there and the question arises of a genetic disorder. For obvious reasons this alarms Sue Ellen and she is determined to prove the father of baby John. Sue Ellen’s younger sister, the voluptuous Kristen arrives in Dallas. One look at Kristen and J.R. decides exactly what he wants and how he is going to get it. Meanwhile, Pam discovers she is pregnant. She is apprehensive of having a child an exposing it to the open hatred between the Barnes and Ewing’s. J.R. is very suspicious at this point of Sue Ellen's behavior and hires a private detective.

Later at the annual Ewing barbeque J.R. is sure his information is accurate and confronts Sue Ellen with her affair with Dusty Farlow. Sue Ellen is in love with Dusty and is seriously considering leaving J.R. and Southfork for the the first time.
