In the first episodes of Dallas Larry Hagman is the conniving brother and oil tycoon. Scruples are not in J.R. Ewing's vocabulary. J.R. is a ruthless oil man and his father Jock Ewing is ever so proud of J.R. Jock defends everything that is said and done by J.R. Shortly after the series begins Sue Ellen is suspicious of J.R.'s erratic behavior, and late night business meetings.
It doesn't take long for Sue Ellen to feel rejected by J.R. and figure out that she too can play at this game. Meanwhile, brother Bobby meets and marries Pamela. Pamela is the daughter of Jocks long time rival Digger Barnes. It seems that Miss Ellie had a little fling going with Digger back before she married Jock. Bobby arrives home with a new bride only to find that no one is too happy with the fact that he just ran off and got married to the daughter of a man Jock Ewing despises. J.R. assumes that Pamela is a gold digger, just like her old man and plans to ruin the marriage.
Sue Ellen seizes the opportunity to prove herself useful to J.R. and does her best to run Pam off Southfork. The rivalry runs deep as Cliff, Pamela’s brother blames the Ewings that Southfork would have been his and Pam’s had not Jock Ewing came along. Fifteen yr old granddaughter Lucy is living at Southfork and keeps things moving at a fast pace, the world seems to be centered on her and her temper tantrums. Lucy takes a fancy to Ray, despite the fact that he is much older and previously involved with Pamela before her marriage to Bobby. Despite her age Lucy is a beauty and has figured out how to get just what she wants when she wants it.
